Phil Hammon is a 38
year old musician born in Cleveland, OH. At the age of five he
began taking piano lessons. He soon discovered however, that he
really liked the drums. So at the age of eight he received a drum
set for Christmas. He started lessons with one of Clevelands finest
drummers Chuck Tupa. By the time Phil was able to start school
band his father had already decided that Phil would not have two
people teaching him drums. So in Band Phil started learning the
sax. This was the beginning of Phil's interest in many instruments.
At the age of fourteen Phil lost his father to a heart attack.
His mother moved the family to CO when her employer relocated.
This was an exciting time for Phil. A new city, new adventure
and a new way of life. He enjoyed playing in a couple of local
bands until the time he headed for college. After two years of
higher education Phil decided he wanted to learn how to record
music. He went to the Media Institute of Technology in Golden,
Colorado. This school really opened his eyes to the studio business
and what was involved in making records. From that day on, recording
his drums into a cheap boombox mic did not cut it. He headed to
Phoenix,AZ which at the time had a fairly strong Rock Market.
He soon found a place through a network of friends that hooked
him up with engineers, producers, and session players. Life was
looking pretty good. That was until drum machines were invented.
Unable to fit into the 80's nitch of music Phil found himself
without a band or session work. But alas a wonderful music format
had been developed. MIDI made being a solo musician/songwriter
easy. So Phil compliled five songs together and hired a guitarist
and bass player from ASU to back him up in the studio. This collaboration
created the "Librarian's Nightmare" recordings. Unable
to keep buying studio time and musicians Phil was forced to learn
guitar and bass. He tried another project on his own and realised
he was not able to spend as much time in the studio as he would
like. This is where Jammin' Hammon Productions came into being.
Phil focused his attention on building a studio and perfecting
bass and guitar. Now Phil performs every track that is recorded,
minus the wonderful background vocals from extremely talented
singers. This brings you up to the year 2000 where you can find
out what he is up to on his "What's in the works" page.
